One of Charlotte’s most populous suburbs, Concord, N.C., is located just 13 miles northeast of Charlotte. Concord has attracted many residents who commute into Charlotte’s University or Uptown business districts. With a population of just over 70,000, Concord is the largest city in Cabarrus County. It was founded in 1796 by German and Scots-Irish settlers who named it Concord, which means “harmony”.
Concord is a city where racing is central in everyday life. Many teams from the racing world from NASCAR to local dragsters call this place home including Charlotte Motor Speedway. Every May and October the city of Concord nearly triples its population as race fans descend upon the it for two big NASCAR races, the Coca-Cola 600 and the Bank of America 500. Concord’s three other racing venues, the ZMAX Dragway, Dirt track at Charlotte and the 1/5 Mile Oval have also gained national attention.
Concord continues to grow in business and population. There are many hotels, businesses, and venues, including the indoor water park and hotel, Great Wolf Lodge and Charlotte’s only area outlet shopping mall, Concord Mills.
